The story is a big “gotcha” that nearly brought our happy Oshkosh adventure to a catastrophic close. I’ve put well over 2,000 hours on my sturdy Cessna T210, including more than 100 AngelFlight missions, 800 Young Eagle rides, and endless hours for business and pleasure. Just before the Oshkosh trip, I noticed flecks of oil on the windscreen. My A&P diagnosed it as a failing seal in the constant speed prop but we all agreed we could safely soar to AirVenture as planned. And everything worked perfectly. But after that trip, when I taxied old ’91N to the maintenance hangar, I was very surprised when they asked about the two pints of water had spilled from that prop. A minor issue instantly had graduated to a serious worry.
