Ken Haenlein is an experienced pilot with a career in the Coast Guard followed by decades of Part 135 charter operations. The majority of his work is single-pilot. “Even though I was flying by myself,” he told me, “I always talk out my take-off briefing. I go through a standard take-off briefing on every flight.” Then he related the harrowing tale of a departure in a Navajo from Wilmington, NC in hard IMC where his solo departure briefing really paid off.
