This trip started with the unexpected call from a college roommate of fifty years ago, retired Air Force Lt. Col. Bruce Denner, looking for the airplane of his dreams. Denner is an excellent researcher, and we talked for hours, dissecting his needs. After each call he’d spiral away like a bloodhound, nose down, picking up aeronautical scents. His “most wanted” list ebbed and flowed like the tide. In the end, he found his bird: N4691K, a 1975 Cessna 182P, with a fresh engine, good logbooks, adequate avionics, a shabby interior, but handsome paint. Now we had to get it home.
