Pilots & People

This is a tale of an interesting experiment. A cluster of 27 pilots and planes convened on a crystal-clear October morning at Wayne Executive Jetport in Goldsboro, North Carolina to enable approximately forty newly-minted military air traffic controllers to experience the cockpit environment. The goal was to allow these new controllers to glimpse the conflicting demands imposed on a pilot during a flight. Orchestrated by the enormously energetic William “Bill” Miller, a retired F-15 pilot, it was akin to a “Young Eagles” mission, and the pilots donated their time and their fuel. Everything worked out fine, but the big question remains — did it move the needle?
