20 years ago, Vince Edwards was building hours hoping to get into the major leagues. He got a job in Cuzco, Peru, doing a magnetometer survey flying a Navajo with turbocharged engines, a Panther conversion kit, winglets, vortex generators, and lots of other goodies. The elevation is so high pilots wear oxygen masks while still on the ground. Vince was very disciplined and refused to fly unless the conditions were perfect — he only got the job when another pilot crashed, doing the exact same work. Then, on his very last flight, he almost became the statistic he had worked so hard to avoid.
